Finney vs. The Sun

The sun comes up a hunter,
its first kill the black of night,
hung on the other side of the world,
then yells out Finney’s name.

“Finney! Consciousness?
You are all the eyes of God!
With only one thought at one time.
More than sight…metering devices!
You sleep and God blinks.
You die, God finds other eyes.”

Finney yells back, “And me
always thinking I’m a club
in a failed diamond flush!”

And so it was, the dawn
fighting Finney’s dark
each day in a tension
so taut one would guess
they were connected.
