(plasticized and in my wallet)
when the glaciers all run backwards to their coffin in the glen
and seismic is the weather, unknown today’s forecast
when lions get that rag doll look, the suburbs hear hyenas laugh,
and elephants grow tired of hiding bones of their deceased
when the bankers kill their children, then beg pity from the crowd,
corporations tell their congressmen to vote us all hellbound
and prisons grow until they’re visible from outer space
when the ocean refuses borders in its shores, rain burns up the crops,
the sun demands we tithe in sweat, rivers blow right through the dams,
When God says, “I told you so,” and the other gods agree,
poets write and rewrite wills, lawyers bill us for their tears,
teachers tell the classroom clown, “Go on. This time is yours.”
when the only thing that matters is one last kiss,
close your eyes and remember this.
